"Bethel's Master of Arts in Teaching program is designed at an accelerated pace for working adults seeking an initial teaching license. Students take classes with the same group of people, called a cohort, which develops a supportive learning environment. The classes are academically rigorous, yet focus heavily on applying educational research to practical classroom instruction—Judith E. Landrum, Ph.D., Program Director, Bethel University

The ideal learners for the M.A. in Teaching program are people who:

  • Possess established values, beliefs, and opinions.
  • Relate new knowledge to previously learned information and experience.
  • Tend to be self-directed.
  • Seek immediate application of classroom theory.

Program Options

  • Master of Arts in Teaching
  • Licensure only

The program is approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Bethel University is a candidate member in good standing of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

Program Schedule

  • Summer: Evenings and some Saturdays
  • Fall: Evenings, plus limited day commitment
  • Winter/Spring: Full-time student teaching day commitment and Saturdays

Licensure

Students in the program will complete the course work required to apply for a Minnesota teaching license at the K-12 or 5-12 level in one or more of the following areas:

K-12 Education

  • Art
  • TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages 
  • World Languages and Cultures (French or Spanish)

5-12 Education

  • Business
  • Communication arts and literature

  • General science with an emphasis in:

    • Chemistry
    • Life science
    • Physics
  • Health
  • Mathematics
  • Social studies
