Teaching: Initial License Programs (M.A. or License-only)

MA Teaching

Your undergraduate degree becomes the basis of your teaching licensure in the M.A. in Teaching degree.

After pursuing other experiences, are you drawn back to college by the challenge of teaching at the K-12 or Secondary (5-12) level?

Program Options

  • M.A. in Teaching with K-12 or 5-12 license
  • K-12 license-only
  • Secondary (5-12) license-only

Areas of License

Complete the course work required to apply for a Minnesota teaching license at the K-12 or 5-12 level in one or more of the following areas.

  • K-12

    • Art
    • TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
    • World Languages and Cultures (French or Spanish)
  • 5-12

    • Business
    • Communication arts and literature
    • General science with an emphasis in chemistry, life sciences, or physics
    • Health
    • Mathematics
    • Social Studies

Accreditation

All education programs are approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Bethel University is a member in good standing of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

Complete your Master's-level Teaching Program

  • Degree requires 36 or 37 semester credits; license-only requires 31 or 32 semester credits
  • Register once for the  entire program
  • Attend class with a supportive group of busy adults who progress through the program together
  • Be evaluated primarily on written assignments, projects, presentations, class discussions, and small group  participation

Schedule

  • Summer: Evenings and some Saturdays
  • Fall: Evenings, plus limited day commitment
  • Winter/Spring: Full-time student teaching day commitment and Saturdays
  • Complete course work in approximately 2 years with a short break during the summer
  • Meet on Bethel's campus (near the intersection of 35W and 694)
  • Park for free
