Graduate Program Options
1. M.A. Degree
- Basic Program: a non-license sequence designed for those who possess or do not want license in E/BD or LD.
- With E/BD concentration: leads to license in the area of Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
- With LD concentration: leads to license in the area of Learning Disabilities
- With E/BD and LD concentrations: leads to license in the areas of Emotional/Behavioral Disorders and Learning Disabilities
2. License for applicants not pursuing a master’s degree:
- E/BD: leads to license in the area of Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
- LD: leads to license in the area of Learning Disabilities
- E/BD and LD: leads to license in both areas
3. License for applicants without a current Minnesota teaching license. Applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, counseling, social work, etc.)
- Have relevant experience with students with E/BD and/or LD in an educational setting
- Complete two courses prior to enrollment or transfer equivalent course work from an accredited institution:EDUC603: Introduction to K-12 Schools (2 credits) and EDUC604: Introduction to Theories and Practices of Teaching and Learning (3 credits)
Accreditation
All education programs are approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Bethel University is a member in good standing of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.
Complete your graduate work in Special Education
- Degree requires 34 semester credits OR license only requires 29 semester credits
- Register once for the entire program
- Attend class with a supportive group of busy educators who progress through the program together
- Be evaluated primarily on written assignments, projects, presentations, class discussions, and small group participation
Schedule designed for busy in-career adults
- Courses are generally taken 1 at a time
- Meet on the Bethel campus (near the intersection of 35W and 694) once a week for face-to-face classes for the entire program (some classes may be on a different schedule) OR
- Meet at the Bethel site in Bloomington (Hwys. 494 and 100) once every six weeks and complete online work in between
- Complete course work in approximately 18 months for a single license
