Technology Requirements

Below are the technology requirements for students in the College of Adult & Professional Studies and Graduate School. Please note that the requirements below are subject to change.

General Requirements

  • Basic competency in specific Microsoft Office Apps (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Basic competency in specific Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Hangouts/Meet, YouTube) 
  • Consistent access to a reliable computer or mobile device 

Hardware Requirements

  • Computer or tablet (like an iPad) purchased within the last four years (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
  • Reliable internet connection (minimum of 5 megabits per second down and 2 Mbps up)
  • Webcam or other digital video recording device
  • One of the following:
    • Microphone and speakers
    • Microphone and headphones
    • Headset with combined microphone and headphone
Please note: Google Chromebooks are not supported. They can be used, but may experience difficulty connecting to our network. Many Chromebooks utilize Wi-Fi adapters that are not certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The non-certified Wi-Fi adapters may not connect to Wi-Fi Enterprise Networks.

Software Requirements

  • Assignments must be submitted in Microsoft Office Format (i.e., .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx) unless otherwise specified by the instructor.
    • Please note: Google is able to save common files (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) in office formats for submission. Certain courses require direct use of office products, but many courses can be completed with the free offerings under your Bethel Google account. 
  • Updated web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari)—websites and web applications may not be compatible with other browsers.

For students enrolling in the B.S. Accounting, B.S. Business, or MBA these additional requirements are needed:

  • Assignments must be submitted in Microsoft Office Format (i.e, .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx). There are a variety of software packages that support these formats, including Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, and Google Docs.  
  • Automatic, cloud-based backup/file sync utility (such as Dropbox or Google Drive).  Keep all Bethel and course assignments backed up at all times.  
  • Software necessary to support online communication (Google Hangouts, etc.) 
  • Adobe Reader (free online) 
  • Apple Quicktime (free online)
