The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) certificate prepares teachers to serve students with ASD.

The program is designed for special education teachers who already have their license and other related professionals who work in the field of ASD, specifically with students.

By January of 2013, the state of Minnesota will require special education teachers to have ASD licensure.

We’re planning for this change by turning this program into a licensure program as soon as the ASD licensure has been approved. Any students going through our certificate program before that time will be able to get the ASD license with some minor additions to their certificate.

Students can also choose to continue on with their studies, earning a special education license or an M.A. in Special Education.

Additionally, up to 9 credits of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate can be transferred directly into the 32-credit M.A. in K-12 Education program.
